Size tags are one of the biggest confidence killers in fashion, but here’s the truth:
They’re just numbers (or letters) created by brands to roughly categorise clothing.
- Every brand is different – A size 12 in one label could be a size 16 in another. International sizing makes it even messier.
- Cuts and fabrics vary – Stretchy fabrics, tailored cuts, or oversized fits all “measure” differently.
- Design intention matters – Sometimes a designer wants a piece to sit close to the body, other times relaxed. The size tag follows their vision, not your body.
- Bodies are beautifully unique – No standardised system will ever capture the individuality of your shape.
What actually matters:
- How does the garment fit your body?
- How do you feel when you wear it?
- Whether it reflects your personality and lifestyle.
The size on the tag is not a measure of your worth. It doesn’t know your story, your beauty, or your confidence.
When I work with clients, I often cut the tag off once we know it’s the right piece, because what matters is how it looks and feels, not the number hidden inside.
Does this stop you from shopping online or in-store? Knowing your go-to brands that suit your proportions is a game-changer!
